Review of Ameilta by Court Yard Hounds

#CYHAmelita

After a few years out of the limelight and the Dixie Chicks, sisters Emily Robison and Martie Maguire are back together as Court Yard HoundsAmelita, out now, is their second album under their new name.  Containing 11 tracks, Robison and Maguire took a different approach on this album.  There's a new perspective in the air, partially due to the time that's passed since Robison's divorce.  She sees life and the world in new ways now.

#CYH Amelita

If you take away the instruments that give the Amelita track a country sound it reminds me of songs from the 60s.  This song is about rescuing a girl named Amelita.  She had fallen into a web of lies started by this guy that had promised to make her famous.  You can see the toll the stress from this lifestyle has had on her.  Despite everything she doesn't seem to really want to leave.  It makes me wonder if the sisters were indirectly writing about Robison's marriage and Maguire trying to rescue her.

The Road You Take has more of a rock vibe.  It's nice to see a country album ending in a different style.  This shows the versatility Robison and Maguire have.  They are truly sisters in life and in harmony.
